Our yoga teachers are experienced, passionate, and knowledgeable; each with their own talents and styles. We encourage students to try a variety of classes and teachers in order to find the experiences that serve them best.

Owner, Shannon Dievendorf

Shannon started her yoga journey in 2013. She first came to yoga for stress reduction and emotional regulation and quickly realized there were a host of other benefits she gained from her practice. Physical to spiritual benefits and everything in between. Shannon completed her 200 Hour Yoga Training from Yoga for the Planet in 2016. Shannon believes that yoga is for every BODY. Yoga heals.
Shannon will be teaching Vinyasa at 8 am and 6 pm every Monday and Wednesday. She will also be teaching “Slow Flow” on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 4:00.  Shannon’s final contribution to the schedule will be a community class on Saturday morning at 8am. You will be asked to pay what you can for this Rise and Shine, Flow and Align community class. If you can pay for the class, please do. If you can’t, please come anyway.

Teacher, Meredith Wray

Mert Wray first found yoga in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1994 to help heal a medical condition and fell in love with all of its benefits. Becoming certified to teach in 2010 at Asheville Yoga Center under Stephanie Keach, Joe Taft and Shala Worsley opened Mert’s world of yoga up even more. Over the past 7 years she has been dedicated to her practice and continuing education especially in the areas of the Chakras and Ayurveda. Since moving to Oak Island in 2013 her yoga world and teaching has evolved even more in this loving community. Mert focuses on teaching how to create space in the mind and body- with the intention that “movement heals”. “Yoga is for everyone – when someone comes out of my class I want them to be empowered by what they can do. We use the poses to get into our bodies moreso than using our bodies to get into the poses. “ Mert’s classes are focused, loving, and playful at times.
Mert will be teaching Vinyasa on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7 am. She will also be teaching Yin on Mondays at 11:00 and Yoga Core Fusion on Wednesdays at 11:00.

Teacher, David Shivette

David’s first yoga class was at an ashram in SF when he was 18. He received his Yoga teacher certification from Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health 2007. He is a Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher. David taught yoga at Danville Yoga & Meditation Center in Danville, Va. in 2007-2008. He also taught Yoga & Meditation at Danville Community College from 2007-2016. Since moving to Oak Island he has been teaching Beach Yoga classes at Caswell Beach, NC. David is inspired by Seane Corn.
David believes that “Being present in the moment is the only thing that matters.”
David will be teaching Gentle Yoga on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10 am.

Teacher, Brynn Waite

Brynn found yoga 17 years ago on the Outer Banks when she and her employee decided to hire a wonderful yoga teacher to come to their office twice a week.  She was fortunate enough to enjoy practicing and learning with several amazing teachers over the years, and eventually started practicing at Outer Banks Yoga.  She went to yoga classes everywhere she traveled — from Berkeley to Paris to Costa Rica, and she attended numerous workshops, but she dreamt of someday diving into Teacher Training.  Moving to Oak Island put her in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the opportunity to study with Claire Liddle and Nancy Smith.  She is now a certified yoga instructor and her life has been enriched beyond measure.  Namaste.
